About

Steve Fronczek

When the original Battlestar Galactica came out I was just six, but it got me hooked on appreciating good Science Fiction, seeking out modern design/technology and having fun with life “cos you never know when life will turn all pear shaped.”

I’ve always had an interest in the behind-the-scenes work that is involved with producing movies and television programs. And, with my background in broadcast journalism and radio production I got to understand that part of the entertainment industry and appreciate it as a skilled craft. I’ve also worked in the internet industry for over eight years, and in my spare time participate in High Performance Driving.

Is intended to document the real world origins of the Props, dressing and construction of Sets and identification of Filming Locations for the television series Battlestar Galactica broadcast on the Sci-fi Channel from 2003 to 2009.

“The jobs, the props, the set design has to ‘convey’ that sense of reality, it has to. You don’t want to break the notion that this is something real. You never want to let that ball drop. Because, as soon as you do, you sort of shattered that whole illusion of what we tried to create.”
~ Ronald D. Moore, Executive Producer

Featured in the site are selected items from the series that provide insight into the complex production design process. The result is a record of my research into the production department’s efforts in creating Battlestar Galactica’s retro-futuristic props along with exclusive Interviews with cast, crew and vendors on a myriad of subjects.
